FOOD POISONING SYMPTOMS

Food Poisoning is widely caused by eating some contaminated food preparations and could affect any individual or the entire group who has consumed such food substances. As per the available statistics, nearly 60 to 80 million people worldwide fall prey to Food Poisoning of which almost 6 to 8 million people die. In general, Food Poisoning is believed to occur mostly at picnics, school or college cafeterias or large social or public gatherings or functions, where normally food is stored unrefrigerated for extended period or perhaps due to unhealthy food preparation situations or techniques. Undercooked foods or dairy products are often reported to be the cause of Food Poisoning.

The usual Food Poisoning Symtoms are in general experienced within 2 to 6 hours of eating the food preparation that is tentatively responsible. However, in some specific cases this time may even be longer or shorter entirely depending on the toxin or organism responsible for such Food Poisoning. The symptoms may be experienced for an uncertain period of time entirely depending upon your age, infecting organism and your overall health conditions.

The likely symtoms may include:

    • Nausea and vomiting
    • Mild to very severe or unbearable abdominal cramps
    • Diarrhoea or sometimes bloody loose bowel motions
    • Fever and chillness
    • Weakness that could be even serious and resulting into the respiratory arrest as in the case of botulism – which is the very serious type of Food Poisoning that could be fatal. It could also come from improper home canning
    • Headaches, gastric formation
